2017 - present  Postdoctoral Researcher. University of Hawai'i at Manoa: Honolulu, Hawai'i, USA

Study predator-prey interactions within marine plankton communities, looking at predator evasion by copepods from a larval fish predator using high-speed video and holography with Drs. Petra LenzDan Hartline, and associates.

2016 - 2017  Postdoctoral Researcher. University of Hawai'i at Manoa: Honolulu, Hawai'i, USA

Studied animal behavior, physiology, ecology, and gene architecture to resolve mechanisms by which the environment shapes the evolution of the brain, using the blind Mexican cavefish with Dr. Masato Yoshizawa and associates.

2010 - 2016  National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow & Graduate Research Assistant. Oregon State University: Corvallis, Oregon, USA

Designed and conducted field and lab experiments that investigated how invasive red lionfish interact with native cleaning mutualisms and parasite communities on Atlantic coral reefs with Dr. Mark Hixon and associates.

2008 - 2009  Fulbright Advanced Student. Université Montpellier 2: Montpellier, France

Orchestrated literature review and masters-level lab research on the effects of changes in environmental salinity on the immunocompetence of an aquaculture tilapia species with Drs. Serge Morand, Helena D'Cotta, and Jean-François Baroiller.

2008  Post-baccalaureate Research Assistant. University of Kentucky: Lexington, Kentucky, USA

Observed behavior and morphology of 150 House Sparrows that we collected and hand-reared from hatchling to adult. Altered birds' social conditions to determine contributors to male molting patterns with Dr. David Westneat.

2007 - 2008  Undergraduate Laboratory Assistant. Centre College: Danville, Kentucky, USA

Genetically and morphologically discerned diurnal and nocturnal variants of a gnathiid isopod species parasitic to fish, which we collected from Caribbean coral reefs with Drs. Paul Sikkel and Robert Ziemba.

2007  Undergraduate Field Assistant. Virgin Islands Environmental Research Station: St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands

Led an independent project and contributed to ongoing research on the interactions among two ectoparasites and their Caribbean fish hosts with Drs. Paul Sikkel (Centre College) and Donna Nemeth (University of the Virgin Islands).

2006  National Science Foundation Research Experience for Undergraduates Intern in Marine Biology. Oregon State University Hatfield Marine Science Center: Newport, Oregon, USA

Led laboratory research on the early ocean ecology of juvenile steelhead salmon as indicated by their macroparasite communities with Dr. Kym Jacobson (NOAA-NWFSC).
