2012 & 2014  Instructor. Oregon State University: Corvallis, Oregon, USA

Co-taught two terms of Z352 Marine Ecology Laboratory (~30 students). Developed laboratory- and field-based curriculum, led lectures and activities, designed and graded assignments.

2017 Guest Lecturer. University of Hawai'i at Mānoa: Honolulu, Hawai'i, USA

BI404 Advanced Topics in Marine Biology: "Interactions among invasive Pacific red lionfish, fish parasites, and cleaning mutualisms native to Atlantic coral reefs."

2014  Guest Lecturer. Oregon State University: Corvallis, Oregon, USA

Z351 Marine Ecology: "Fishing out marine parasites? Impacts of fishing on species interactions in the ocean."

2013  Guest Lecturer. Oregon State University: Corvallis, Oregon, USA

BI358 Symbioses and the Environment: "Mutualism or parasitism?: The variable and context-dependent outcomes of cleaning symbioses."

2011 - 2012  Graduate Teaching Assistant. Oregon State University: Corvallis, Oregon, USA

Instructed laboratory components of the BI21x Principles of Biology series for life science majors (~40 students). Led two lab sections, assisted in two different lab sections, designed quizzes, and graded assignments.

formal training

2013  Scientific Teaching & Curriculum Design Seminar. Oregon State University: Corvallis, Oregon, USA

Discussed the theory and practice of effective scientific teaching. Developed a three-week lab module that allows students to explore the ecological and policy-related implications of ocean acidification, specifically on sea urchin larval development.

2011 - 2012  Graduate Teaching Assistant Training Seminar. Oregon State University: Corvallis, Oregon, USA

Participated in two 10-hour seminars that focused on quality classroom management, evaluation of student work, and creating an engaging learning environment.

mentorING

2017 - present  Undergraduate Student Mentor. University of Hawai'i at Manoa: Honolulu, Hawai'i, USA

Mentor 3 undergraduate students (Lauren Block, Delaney Coleman, and Mary Fashingbauer) all researching different aspects of the interaction between larval clownfish and calanoid copepods.

2016 - 2017  Undergraduate Student Mentor. University of Hawai'i at Manoa: Honolulu, Hawai'i, USA

Mentored 2 undergraduate students who worked in the cavefish lab: Jonnathan Choi and Crystal Valdez, during their independent research projects. Along with the lab's PI, Dr. Masato Yoshizawa, I also supervised 3 other students, all of whom had research projects regarding vibration attraction behavior, the lateral line system, and gut microbiota.

2013 - 2014  Undergraduate Student Mentor. Cape Eleuthera Institute: Eleuthera, The Bahamas

Mentored 3 undergraduate field assistants: Emily Anderson, Allison Stringer, and Eric Dilley. Co-designed and supervised a lab experiment with Allison that tested if invasive lionfish learn to avoid a putatively toxic prey fish (Tuttle et al. submitted). Supervised and assisted with a lab experiment led by Eric about predator hunting mode and prey anti-predator responses (Green et al. in preparation).

2009  Tutor. Edith Junior Academy & Vihiga Children's Home: Western Province, Kenya

Established a library for Kenyan orphans and tutored middle school students in math, science, and English.

Audio link for "Our Trip to Africa," Visiting Sermon at Thomas Jefferson Unitarian Church in Louisville, Kentucky by Daniel Holder, Emily Neyman, Lillian Tuttle on education (37:00 and 53:10), and Brian Pate

2007  Mentor for Earthwatch Institute Student Challenge Award Program. Virgin Islands Environmental Research Station: St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands

Guided high schoolers through scientific data collection, while focusing on the creative link between art and biology.
