Mentoring students — from high schoolers to graduate students — is one of my top priorities. please contact me if you are interested in learning more about opportunities to work with me and my colleagues!
students
I’ve mentored nearly two dozen undergraduates and graduate students during independent research projects in the field and lab, 8 of which have co-authored scientific papers or posters with me thus far. Most of these students have pursued graduate careers in science, technology, medicine, or natural resource management.
Other MENTORING EXPERIENCES
I was lucky enough to travel to Kenya during the fall of 2009 and serve as a middle school tutor at Edith Junior Academy and Vihiga Children's Home. My fellow tutors and I established a library and helped prepare eighth-grade students for a nationalized high school entrance exam. If you’d like to know more, visit this audio link:

I was also lucky enough to be a mentor for the Earthwatch Institute’s Student Challenge Award Program at the Virgin Islands Environmental Research Station during the summer of 2007. I assisted Dr. Paul Sikkel and colleague Amber McCammon in guiding high schoolers through scientific data collection, while focusing on the creative link between art and biology.
